Streams of Christian Spirituality
An Extraordinary Day with Norvene and Doug Vest

This Ventura Contemplative Community retreat will focus on some rich spiritual traditions of the Christian religious experience. Norvene and Douglas Vest will introduce us to six great streams of Christian spirituality that have deepened our faith for two thousand years: Benedictine, Carmelite, Jesuit, Celtic, Reformed, and Franciscan. All of these spiritualities draw from the same deep sources of the gospels, but they emphasize different elements of life with God, and offer various approaches to prayer, scripture, and spiritual direction. The retreat will include presentations on these traditions and an opportunity to pray in the style of each.

Norvene and Douglas Vest have worked in the US and Europe as authors, spiritual directors, and retreat leaders. Doug is an ordained priest, poet, and writer, and a former research physicist. Since his ordination he has served the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles as vicar, chaplain to priests, and associate rector at All Saints Church, Pasadena. Norvene is a feminist, teacher, and spiritual director and is a Doctoral Candidate in Mythological Studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Both Doug and Norveneare Benedictine Oblates.
